Coming out as ATHEIST in the Philippines
March 11th, 2011We have fear of the unknown. We are coming out as atheists in the Philippines for the very first time in history. Anxiety, sleepless nights abound when there is fear of the unknown.
We are not expecting anything but respect and acceptance and equality of rights. We do not know how the public will react to our ‘coming out’ event. We do not know if this is like a ‘suicide’ for us. We do not know what is going to happen to us..We will do it anyway.
Our event is only to create awareness of the existence of atheism in the Philippines as an alternate to organized religion. Our paraphernalias are pamphlets, books about misconceptions of atheism, tarpaulins, science books, logic, critical thinking and cutting edge technology. This could be an eye-opener to most agnostics to come out in the open as atheists also.
We are coming out on March 19-20, 2011 in Rizal Park, Luneta, Manila, Philippines. This place called Luneta, is the ground zero of atheism, whereby, John Paraiso, President of PATAS holds his weekly atheistic debates and educational work shop.
This is the best time to come out, in consorance with the “A” week, an international observance for atheists from all walks of life to come out and declare to the world that “WE ARE ATHEISTS and we are not hiding in the closet anymore!! and the time is NOW.

Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life tha…t will live on in the memories of your loved ones.I am not afraid — Marcus Aurelius
…Atheism is more than just the knowledge that gods do not exist, and that religion is either a mistake or a fraud. Atheism is an attitude, a frame of mind that looks at the world objectively, fearlessly, always trying to understand all things as a part of nature. ~ Carl Sagan An Atheist loves his fellow man instead of god. An Atheist believes that heaven is something for which we should work now–here on earth for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist believes he can get no help through prayer but that he must find in himself the inner conviction and strength to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdue it and enjoy it. An Atheist believes that only in knowledge of himself and knowledge of his fellow man can he fin the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment. He seeks to know himself and his fellow man rather than know a god. An Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An Atheist believes that a deed must be done instead of a prayer said. an Atheist strives for involvenment in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanquished, war eliminated. He wants man to understand and love man. He wants an ethical way of life. He believes that we cannot rely on a god or channel action into prayer nor hope for an end of troubles in a hereafter. He believes that we are our brother’s keepers; and are keepers of our own lives; that we are responsible persons and the job is here and the time is now. |
